Starting a new car spotting series of posts on my blog -- Moscow Cars -- all interesting cars spotted and photographed by me as I go about my daily business here in Moscow where I am based.
To begin with, three GAZ-21 Volga cars, iconic Soviet cars.
Truth to tell, they are not daily drivers -- I spotted them on a movie shoot in November 2014 -- the same one I photographed this Lincoln Town Cars 1st Gen.
Members of the public are watching movie people shooting a movie, and I am shooting period cars.
Volga GAZ-21, Third Series.
The Volga Third Series fascia ... quite different from that of the Second Series, see below.
Whalebone grille, no deer hood ornament, the bumper without guards ("fangless" as it is known in Russia) whose bottom is painted the color of the body.
Driver's seat... the mechanical transmission shifter is on the column.
Volga Second Series (next to a Pobeda M-20 about which in one of the subsequent posts).
Differences include the deer hood ornament, the bumper with guards ("fangs" as they are known in Russia), and the Shark Maw grille.
And one other black Volga, this one is Third Series again.
The rear end.
The front...
The two gentlemen in the car have 1960s clothing on.
Volga styling... tail light...
The number plate lamp... as the back half of a flying bird (or so it looks to me) and old style number plates.
A quick primer again on distinguishing between the two series of Volgas -- the Second and the Third.
Below is the Third Series... check Whalebone grille, guardless ("fangless") bumper the bottom part of which is painted same color as the body, no Volga deer ornament on the hood.
And now the Second Series (rarer than the Third)... check the Volga deer hood ornament, the Shark Maw grille, the all-chrome bumper with guards ("fangs").
